Karmelo Anthony's new trial hearing centers on an unwritten agreement that kept him from testifying in the Austin Metcalf murder case in Frisco.

The Texas prosecutor who oversaw Karmelo Anthony's conviction in a deadly stabbing at a high school track meet said Thursday that both sides had agreed to hold back evidence that risked further inflaming a case already boiling with racial tensions and death threats.

“Karmelo Anthony was a violent criminal who killed Austin Metcalf in cold blood. James Talarico sides with a murderer,” Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton wrote on X.
