Judge ‘reluctantly’ tosses Oath Keepers’ Jan. 6 cases despite their ‘unearned grace’

More than three years ago, the US Justice Department touted guilty verdicts against members of the right-wing Oath Keepers for plotting to obstruct Congress’ certification of the 2020 presidential election as the crowning achievement of a sprawling prosecution effort that followed violent riots at the Capitol on Jan. 6

The ruling from Washington-based US District Judge Amit Mehta tosses out convictions of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and other members of the group who were convicted of seditious conspiracy.

The judge, Amit P. Mehta, blasted the administration’s request for a dismissal in the case, saying it bestowed “unearned grace” on the Oath Keepers defendants “by wiping their records clean.”
