Italian Diver Discovers Hundreds of Ancient Amphorae in Sicily

Hundreds of ancient amphorae were found piled up about 150 feet underwater, suggesting the relics came from a Roman shipwreck from about 2,000 years ago.

A team of divers came across a 162-year-old bottle of Guinness while exploring a shipwreck off the UK coast – and there’s a possibility the stout could still be drinkable.

A shipwreck believed to be over 2,000 years old has been discovered off the coast of Sicily near Mazara del Vallo, and the site features incredible items from the Roman period.

The wreck is believed to be more than 2,000 years old. Italy's culture minister says it is "one of the most important underwater archaeological" finds in years.

The wreck, dubbed by Italy’s Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli as “one of the most important underwater archeological discoveries of recent years”, was found some three miles off the coast of Mazara del Vallo.
