President Trump on Monday threatened to strike Oman, a longtime U.S. ally, which shares the Strait of Hormuz and has been negotiating control of the waterway with the Iranian regime. Mr. Trump also suggested claiming the strait as a U.S. territory, but it is currently controlled by Iran.

An unidentified projectile damaged the ship's engine room and "resulted in a crew casualty" off the coast of Oman, the UKMTO said, citing a report from the company's security office.

A vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving a crew member injured, according to the UKMTO.

President Donald Trump threatened to strike Oman if it interferes in a potential deal over control of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also told the military to cut back joint exercises with South Korea after it stayed out of the Iran war. NBC News' Yamiche Alcindor reports.

Mr Trump’s threat comes as the Iran-US MoU, signed on 17 June, expires.

The talks come as Oman is in the midst of negotiations with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.
