There are no ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday, after Tehran set out a steep series of demands for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media said Thursday that Tehran is "in the final stages" of confirming a temporary shipping arrangement with Oman that would create a new shipping lane through the center of the strait — after President Trump this week ordered the waterway fully opened.

Iran has exercised de facto control of the waterway since the US and Israel launched their war against the country on 28 February.

US President Donald Trump earlier said a deal could be announced this week.

Neither the US or Oman have commented on the proposed agreement on the vital waterway.
