Iran Says Deal With Oman on Strait of Hormuz Agreed in Principle

The wait for an Iran-Oman deal that partially reopens the Strait of Hormuz continued into Thursday morning, after the Islamic Republic said an agreement on proposed shipping lanes was in the final stages.

Iran says it has reached an agreement with Oman on a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.

A foreign ministry spokesman did not give details but said an agreement with the Gulf nation was "in the final stages".

Iran has seized de facto control of the strait - a strategic waterway for the global energy trade.
