Indonesia quake death toll rises to 68, thousands left homeless

Thousands of people were still waiting for aid on the Indonesian island of Flores on Monday, days after a powerful earthquake killed at least 68 people, injured more than 200 others and damaged hundreds of homes and other buildings.

Indonesia marked its Independence Day on Monday but celebrations have been overshadowed by an earthquake which has left over 60 people dead and thousands homeless. Residents say they need aid as soon as possible.

A second strong quake was recorded thousands of kilometres away on Sumatra island in the west of the archipelago, but there were no initial reports of damage or casualties there.
