India, Uzbekistan upgrade ties to comprehensive strategic partnership; set $5 bn trade target

The two sides inked 11 agreements for boosting engagement in several key sectors, including mining and tourism, and agreed to establish a framework for the long-term supply of Uranium from Uzbekistan to India

The two governments also broadened cooperation on critical minerals, defence, digital payments and transport. A new foreign minister-level mechanism will oversee implementation, alongside expanded education and regional links.

India and Uzbekistan agreed on a bilateral trade target of $5 billion over the next four years during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the central Asian nation.
