Iceland votes 'No' to further EU accession talks in tight result

Iceland has voted to reject the resumption of European Union accession talks, in a referendum that swung back and forth through the night.

The country is already part of the European Economic Area and the Schengen Area, which allows frictionless movement of people, goods, capital and services.

Broadcaster RUV reports that 52.8% of voters rejected the government's proposal to resume talks.

The ‘No’ vote received 52.8% compared to 47.2% for the ‘Yes’ camp.
