The boat captain facing charges over a deadly crash earlier this month in New York Harbor has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A Coast Guard investigation led to the arrest of Manuel Hernandez, who had been charged with misconduct and neglect after the deaths of a mother and her child.

The captain of a boat that capsized in New York Harbour earlier this month, killing a baby and her mother, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, authorities said.

The captain of a boat that capsized in New York Harbor, killing a mother and her baby, is an illegal immigrant.

Prosecutors allege Manuel Hernandez was illegally operating the boat at the time of the accident. The Department of Homeland Security said he is in the U.S. illegally.

Hernandez, a limo driver without a boat license, was in the US illegally when he capsized the overloaded 21-foot vessel on Aug. 8, drowning Sara Sanchez and her baby daughter, Antonella Garcia, the Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday.
