Hungary is hurtling toward a full shutdown of its sole nuclear power plant due to the record low levels of the Danube River, straining the country’s energy supplies and posing a major test for the economy and new Prime Minister Peter Magyar.

Hungarian PM Péter Magyar has warned of an energy crisis after record-low Danube water levels forced the shutdown of the Paks nuclear plant, which supplies nearly half the country's power.
