HUERTGENWALD, Germany, Aug 15 - A wildfire in western Germany that forced the evacuation of thousands of people on Friday has stabilised, local authorities said on Saturday, although residents were still barred from returning home.

Residents were asked to leave their homes in the village of Gey at around 4:00 a.m. and go to an assistance center set up at a primary school in a nearby village, authorities said in a statement.
