How US Senate Russia sanctions could spell 100% tariffs for India, China

Russian energy exports could face sweeping tariffs under bill named for late Senator Lindsey Graham.

India has stepped up Russian crude oil purchases to make up for the deficit, helped in part by the US sanctions waiver which lapsed recently. However, India has continued to procure Russian crude.

The Russia sanctions bill, championed by late senator Lindsey Graham, aims to increase economic pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The bill would give Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on goods from major purchasers of Russian oil and gas, especially China and India.
