The UK is bracing for its fifth heatwave of the year, as new heat alerts come into force with possible highs of 36C (97F) on the way.

The current heatwave has exposed vulnerabilities in public health systems, power generation, transportation networks and tourism infrastructure, forcing governments to adapt to more frequent periods of extreme weather.
