The Big Island is expected to begin to see rain from Lala by midday Friday, and downpours are expected to intensify through the day.

The National Hurricane Center says the storm could become a hurricane and bring rain to the Hawaiian Islands starting late Friday as well as high winds and dangerous surf.

Tropical Storm Lala formed Thursday in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to become a hurricane while approaching the Big Island of Hawaii, where it could bring heavy rain and flooding this weekend, forecasters said.

Tropical Storm Lala continues to track through the central Pacific Ocean and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Big Island of Hawaii.
