Grifols pauses plasma collection across Canada after two donor deaths

A plasma collection company that pays people for donations has temporarily paused collections at its clinics across Canada, including Calgary, following the deaths of two donors at two separate Winnipeg locations, on October 2025 and January 2026.

Grifols said Thursday that the company voluntarily decided to pause collection and has communicated the decision to Health Canada.

Grifols, a Spanish company, said “unfounded attention” on its blood plasma business in Canada had led it to temporarily end collections at 17 clinics.
