Germany to Blame Russia for Failed Leipzig Airport Drone Attack

The German government will blame a Russian intelligence service for last month’s failed drone attack at a local airport that’s used to ship military equipment to Ukraine.

After multiple incidents involving explosives and drone incursions on German airports, media reports suggested that the federal government was prepared to officially blame Russia.

BERLIN, Sept 1 - Germany's ministers for the interior and for foreign affairs plan to announce on Tuesday that Russian intelligence services were behind an attempted drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle airport in early August, Bild newspaper reported on Tuesday.

In the coming days, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to accuse Russia of an attempted act of sabotage at Leipzig airport, where drones with explosives were found, Politico and the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag said, citing sources.
