Germany news: Blast reported near Augsburg train station

Police are investigating the explosion of an unidentified object at a train station in southern Germany. Meanwhile, a malfunction at a German power station near Cologne is being probed as a deliberate act. More on DW.

Augsburg is a regional transport hub around 55 kilometers northwest of Munich.

The blast occurred in a building passageway, Bavaria state police said.

Police were called to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning after reports of a fatal stabbing attack

A man suspected of fatally stabbing a 31-year-old British woman with a knife early Sunday morning in the southern German town of Rosenheim was detained, authorities said.

Federal police officers, called to the scene, detained the suspect right after the stabbing.

Police identified him as a 27-year-old German man from the nearby county of Fürstenfeldbruck.

German authorities are looking for witnesses who were there at the time of the incident.
