Germany blames Russia for attempted drone attack at airport

The German government said Russia tried to attack Leipzig/Halle Airport last month by drone. It said it would close a Russian consulate.

Officials said the Aug. 4 attempt was part of a campaign aimed at undermining European support for Ukraine against Russia.

Leipzig/Halle is a major hub for international freight and for providing support to Ukraine. The planes that regularly use it include Ukrainian Antonov transport aircraft.
