German minister warns of daily 'hybrid warfare' after suspected drone attack

BERLIN, Aug 9 - Germany faces daily hybrid warfare attacks from abroad, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt was quoted as saying on Sunday, following a suspected attack attempt involving an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

A spokesperson for Germany's armed forces said the drones were sighted at around 10 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Thursday at the base in Mechernich in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, some 35 kilometres (22 miles) from the Belgian border.

The drone incident was framed as the latest in a series of hybrid attacks across Europe

German authorities are investigating the incident as a suspected hybrid attack after the drone was discovered at the NATO logistics hub.

"There are many indications pointing in that direction," said Dobrindt.
