In a statement posted by the band, ZZ Top frontman Billy F. Gibbons paid tribute to a 'great friend and collaborator' who he says was a key part of their success.

"Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas," ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons said in a statement.
