FDA upgrades egg recall linked to salmonella to highest risk level

U.S. food regulators say 1.6 million cartons of recalled eggs can "cause serious adverse health consequences or death."

Class 1 indicates “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall of some Whole Foods Market brand products, saying they've been linked to a salmonella outbreak in the U.S. Various guacamoles, pico de gallos, salsas and prepared foods are part of the recall, issued Thursday.

The products were produced between May 15 and May 20 and have use-or-freeze-by dates from between September 15 and September 20, according to the US Department of Agriculture

The voluntary recall comes after U.S. health officials said businesses should check their inventory for the recalled jalapeno peppers and not sell or serve them.

Guacamole, pico de gallo and taco dip are some of the prepared foods included in the recall. The announcement comes a few weeks after Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled its iceberg lettuce products sourced from central Mexico because of a potential link to a multistate cyclospora outbreak.
