FDA approves 1st mRNA flu shot, from Moderna

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved the U.S.’s first flu shot that uses mRNA technology: mFlusiva, from drugmaker Moderna.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new seasonal flu vaccine from Moderna that uses mRNA technology, the drugmaker announced.

The shot, mFlusiva, was given a ​traditional approval for adults aged 50 to 64.

The agency had initially refused to even review the application but reversed course after a public outcry.

The FDA has approved Moderna’s influenza vaccine, the first licensed flu shot made using messenger RNA technology.

The trial, backed by up to $50 million from CEPI, comes as the Congo outbreak surpasses 3,700 confirmed cases and 1,600 deaths

Canada is now the second country to authorize a Phase I clinical trial for a Bundibugyo virus vaccine candidate after the U.K., according to federal officials in a news release.
