Father of Georgia school shooter sentenced to 15 years in prison

July 30 - A man who gave his troubled son the rifle he used to kill four people at a Georgia high school was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years in prison, the culmination of the state's first case in which a parent was convicted of second-degree murder for a mass shooting committed by his child.

Colin Gray, the father of Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday. CBS News' Skyler Henry has more.

"It is clear you failed as a parent," the judge told Colin Gray, who was found guilty earlier this year on charges stemming from the deadly 2024 school attack.

His son, Colt Gray, had pleaded guilty to murder and other charges.

Prosecutors argued that Colin Gray bore responsibility for the 2024 shooting because he had given his son a gun and failed to act as the teen’s mental health deteriorated.

The elder Gray is one of a handful of American parents who have been criminally charged after their children were accused in shootings.
