Ex-cops found not guilty in Alan Hall wrongful conviction case

Alan Hall was wrongfully convicted nearly 40 years ago of murdering Arthur Easton. Today two police officers were found not guilty of perverting the course of justice.

The pair were accused of obstructing justice in an investigation which led to Hall's wrongful conviction in the 1980s.

Alan Hall was exonerated by the Supreme Court in 2022, receiving NZ's largest-ever payout.

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has rejected the position that lawyers can decline to proceed with cases simply because they have been scheduled during the legal vacation. He said a judge who is sitting and ready to hear a case cannot be prevented from doing so merely because counsel has made personal arrangements dur
