Ecuador Convicts Ex-President Lenín Moreno in Sinohydro Bribery Case

Ecuador's National Court of Justice convicted former president Lenín Moreno of bribery on 28 August 2026. The five-year sentence in the Sinohydro bribery case is a first-instance ruling.

QUITO, Aug 28 - An Ecuadorean court found former President Lenin Moreno guilty on Friday in a bribery case tied to the construction of the Andean country's largest hydroelectric plant, the public prosecutor's office said.
