Authorities have released the identity of the woman killed when police say an emotionally disturbed woman started stabbing people in the heart of Times Square Monday afternoon.

Police in New York shot and killed a 49-year-old woman after she allegedly stabbed two people in Times Square before refusing repeated orders to drop two knives, authorities said.

The 49-year-old woman from pulled out two knives from a shopping bag and began stabbing people at random, killing one before she was shot dead by police.
