Colombia recognises Morocco’s sovereignty over Sahara, signals new chapter in bilateral ties

Colombia has announced a major shift in its position on the Sahara issue, recognising Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory’s southern provinces.

Colombia recognised Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara on 8 August and withdrew recognition of the Sahrawi republic, a day after Abelardo De La Espriella took office and while Colombia holds a UN Security Council seat.
