The chief justice broke with five other Republican-appointed justices as the Supreme Court allowed construction of Trump’s $400 million ballroom to continue.

'We conclude only that ... the government is likely to prevail in showing that the Trust lacks Article III standing to challenge the project in federal court and that the remaining stay factors favor relief.'

The 5-4 decision overturned a lower court order that had halted above-ground construction.

Chief Justice John Roberts warned the White House ballroom project is "likely unlawful," but the Supreme Court let construction continue for now.
