The claim by the CENTCOM fact-check came shortly after American forces struck Larak Island.

"We will take retribution" against the US for striking Larak Island, a spokesperson for the IRGC told state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday evening, adding that Iran "will punish those responsible."

The IRGC confirmed strikes had hit Larak Island and warned that the attack would be "met with a retaliatory response," per Iran's Fars news agency.
