Canadian NATO intern arrested for espionage was spying for China, sources say

Woman identified as Claire Z is in her 30s and not a student, says security source

The Canadian woman currently behind bars accused of spying on NATO was vetted by Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) before she started working as an intern at the command centre of the military alliance.

A security source said the woman, identified as Claire Z, is in her 30s and not a student.

Following a closed-door hearing Tuesday, the Belgian federal prosecutor's office said the suspect would continue to be held in pretrial detention.
