Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada will match new US tariffs “dollar for dollar."

The U.S. was set to impose 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian products early Saturday. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney countered that Canada would match them "dollar for dollar."

"In recent weeks, we made important progress toward improving Canada’s position as having the best deal in the world with the U.S. However, that progress has not been enough to meet our objectives for Canadians," Mark Carney said.

A new round of punishing U.S. tariffs on Canada went into effect early Saturday morning, as Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade negotiations minutes before the deadline.
