Canada’s Leylah Fernandez upsets Andreeva in third-round match at NBO Toronto

Canada’s Leylah Fernandez rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over fifth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva at the National Bank Open on Friday for her first win over a top-10 opponent this season.

The Canadian trounced the world No. 5 and French Open champion in straight sets to advance to the round of 16.

Leylah Fernandez fired three aces and connected on five of six break-point opportunities Wednesday to breeze past Mexico's Renata Zarazua 6-2, 6-2 in front of a partisan crowd at Sobeys Stadium. The Laval, Que., native is the lone Canadian remaining in either of the men's or women's draws of the National Bank Open.
