California lawmakers are expected to vote on a bill that would ensure survivors of utility-sparked wildfires get paid faster

The act was authored by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and sponsored by Jewish California, ADL, JCRC Bay Area, and Jewish Federation LA.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s push to shield publicly traded utilities from some wildfire liabilities has been blocked by state lawmakers, according to people familiar with the negotiations.

Critics have blasted the measure as a way to intimidate people “trying to shine light on bad behavior."
