Burning Man issues warning to thousands of revelers as Nevada wildfire burns along key route to festival

Festivalgoers traveling through the Reno area are being urged to consider delaying their arrival as firefighters rush to contain the Hawk Fire.

The third wildfire in two weeks devastates neighbourhoods across Reno, home to major entertainment and casino resorts.

Firefighters are still working to contain the blaze, which has burned 15,000 acres and injured seven people, officials say.

In Reno, Nevada, the Hawk Fire, officials say, has destroyed dozens of homes and forced 45,000 people to evacuate. The fire is said to be human caused, but still under investigation, if that act was intentional. NBC News’ Steve Patterson reports from Reno.

A huge blaze is burning perilously close to neighbourhoods in the city of Reno, with authorities warning that shifting winds could put homes at risk.

The Hawk fire has burned more than 15,000 acres since it began on Saturday in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada near Reno.

Authorities urged people to be prepared to stay away for several days, because shifting and strengthening winds were expected to make the fire even more unpredictable.
