Police said the couple had been en route to Sifnos when the helicopter crashed and ignited a fireball

The pair, believed to have been in their early 30s and living in London, were reportedly on their honeymoon at the time of the smash. The pilot is said to have been a retired Greek Air Force officer.

The aircraft crashed just short of a heliport on the island of Sifnos at around 6pm on Monday evening

Police said Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert crashed near the heliport in Sifnos after travelling from Athens.

Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the site of the crash, with flames and plumes of dark smoke visible on a hillside.
