A deadly wildfire in Western Canada has forced about 20,000 people to flee grew overnight

The fires that erupted on Friday spread rapidly, nearly doubling in size overnight into Saturday. National police are investigating a possible death near Summerland, although the casualty has not yet been confirmed.

Canada’s British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as a fast-moving wildfire forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate overnight. Premier David Eby announced the emergency as more than 100 wildfires burned across the province, nearly half of them out of control in hot, windy weather and prolonged drought.
