Bolivia Orders Evo Morales Arrest Over Road Blockades

A Bolivian prosecutor issued an arrest order against former president Evo Morales on July 29, 2026, over the 53-day road blockades by his supporters that caused shortages of food, fuel, and medicine. The charges include armed insurrection and terrorism.

The Santa Cruz departmental prosecutor's office issued an arrest order on Wednesday against former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) over his alleged role in the road blockades and protests that paralyzed parts of Bolivia for 53 days in May and June.

Bolivia's former president is being investigated 'for armed uprising' against the state, among other things.

The probe stemmed from an 'armed uprising' and 'terrorism' complaint filed by a right-wing conglomerate of civic leaders and businesses against Morales, trade unionist Mario Argollo and Indigenous figure Vicente Salazar. A section of the government later joined the complaint.
