Binance Gave Russia Data on User Who Donated to Ukraine

Binance gave Russian investigators transaction and personal data on a Russian IT specialist who donated cryptocurrency to Ukrainian military-related causes, Reuters found. The information was later used as evidence in a “terrorism” financing case.

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, handed Russian security officials information about one of its users, IT specialist Yuri Belenky, whom Russian authorities have accused of financing terrorism over his donations to Ukraine’s armed forces, the human rights project Department One reported.

LONDON, Aug 17 - Binance last year handed Russian authorities details of cryptocurrency donations to Ukrainian fundraising campaigns that were used as evidence to bring terrorism financing charges against a Russian IT specialist, law enforcement documents show.
