Berlin being 'blackmailed' after cyberattack

Berlin's mayor on Friday said the city was being blackmailed after a data theft during a cyberattack two weeks ago.

According to the German weekly Der Spiegel, the blackmailers are demanding 30 bitcoins -- the equivalent of about two million euros or $2.5 million.

Kai Wegner says the German capital and city-state would not cave in to a ransom demand for data stolen in a cyber-attack.

Rhysida notably claimed responsibility for a ransomware attack against the British Library in 2023 and demanded payment of 20 bitcoins -- worth some $850,000 at the time.
