At March on Washington, an urgent plea for black voters to turn out in the midterm elections

WASHINGTON — The commemorative March on Washington held Friday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 voting rights and jobs speech carried an added sense of urgency from Democratic lawmakers and activists ahead of the midterm elections. The march, held in the nation’s capital beginning on the steps of the Lincoln

Sen. Bernie Sanders, one of the speakers, said the “dream of a more just and equitable society has never been under greater threat than it is right now.”

Ahead of Friday, organizations participating in the march filed new claims in their federal lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order restricting mail-in voting.
