Since last week, hazardous weather has caused seven deaths, forced people from their homes and required some to be rescued by boat. The region was at risk for more flooding on Sunday.

A 4-year-old boy, two men and three women were among those who had died since the storms began Aug. 11, said Liz Woods, a spokesperson for the state Department of Homeland Security.

The National Weather Service warned that heavy rain and flash flooding were still possible across central areas of the state, including Indianapolis, throughout the day

The state has been hammered over the past week by heavy rains, resulting in rivers reaching record levels.

Historic White River flooding has inundated Indianapolis, forcing evacuations, killing five and prompting 95 people to be rescued as waters slowly recede.

Indiana, Illinois and surrounding states are preparing for another stretch of flooding through this weekend.
