Irish indie pop artist Catherine 'Cat' Dowling, who was born in Kilkenny and was based in Dublin, has died, with tributes pouring in for the talented Alphastates singer

Hundreds of mourners, including Irish musicians and entertainers, filled a Dublin cathedral on Tuesday for the funeral of Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who died in a motorcycle crash last week aged 56.

The 56-year-old, who shot to prominence in 1991 musical comedy film The Commitments, died in a motorcycle crash last week.

The pair performed Song of Good Hope from Hansard’s debut solo album just after the singer’s wife, Maire Saaritsa, had addressed the cathedral.

"Glen made me feel that the world was a far more magical place than it seemed," said the musician's younger brother, Richard, at a service attended by Bono, Steve Coogan, Chris O'Dowd, Hozier and more.
