Amazon has $600 million in tariff refunds—and some of it is headed to customers

Amazon says that some customers will get back a sliver of cash from its pool of refunded money after the Trump administration’s tariffs experiment fell apart in court. Andy Jassy conceded in January tariffs were hitting prices, months before Amazon's $600 million refund came to light.

The company previously hadn't disclosed whether it would recoup tariff costs after the Supreme Court ruled many of President Donald Trump's levies were illegal.

During the company’s earnings call Thursday, Brian Olsvavsky, Amazon’s finance chief, said: “We are participating in the tariff refund process and…we received approximately $600 million in Q2.”

The company said refunds were limited because it stockpiled inventory ahead of tariffs and is not the importer of record for most goods in its store
