Airport passenger numbers in Portugal rise

National airports handled 7.1 million passengers in June, a year-on-year drop of 0.2% following record highs in the previous five months, bringing the total for the first half of the year to 35.341 million, a 2.5% increase, Statistics Portugal (INE) reported today.

Heathrow has been knocked off the top spot for the first time since 2023, with Istanbul handling almost 300,000 more passengers in July as the London airport pushes ahead with plans for a third runway.

Passenger numbers at Sault Ste. Marie Airport were up 14.7 per cent in July compared to the same period last year, the airport said in a news release.
