Wigan pub goes up in flames as firefighters descend

NewsUK & World NewsWiganA huge cordon was set up this morning09:37, 04 Aug 2026Firefighters are in Wigan town centre after a blaze broke out at one of the town's best known pubs earlier this morning. Smoke was seen billowing from the John Bull Chop House overnight.‌Crews remained at the scene, as reported by the MEN. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At approximately 4am on Tuesday, August 4, four fire engines from Wigan, Atherton and Leigh fire stations were called to attend a fire at a pub on Coopers Row, Wigan.‌“Crews arrived quickly and used breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one hose reel jet and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.‌"Firefighters remain in attendance at this time." The fire service added no-one was injured.Wigan Council
