Wiffen books 800m Freestyle final with season’s best

Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen says he is “really happy” having qualified for qualified for the 800m Freestyle Final on Wednesday with a season’s best 7:44.86, more than four seconds quicker than his time from last month’s Commonwealth Games final.The performance saw the Olympic champion in the event finish third in his heat and third fastest overall heading into the medal race, behind Hungary’s Zalan Sarkany (7:42.34) and Germany’s Johannes Liebmann (7:41.87).Speaking afterwards, Wiffen said: “Unbelievable, I’m so happy. Coming into this I went 7:48 at the Commonwealth Games to get fourth place and I didn’t know what shape I was going to be in or whether I’d make the final.“To drop a time like that after a week of resting post-Commonwealth Games, I’m really happy. I even went out really quick th
