Why Nationals DFA'd former Cardinals All-Star pitcher Miles Mikolas

The Washington Nationals announced Wednesday that right-hander Miles Mikolas was designated for assignment. Mikolas' spot on Washington's roster goes to lefty prospect Jackson Kent, who will make his Major League debut today against the Chicago Cubs. Mikolas, a two-time All-Star during his seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, is not the same caliber of pitcher he once was. In 25 appearances with the Nationals, including 11 starts, the 37-year-old posted a 5.82 ERA and allowed 137 hits in 116 innings. "Mikolas still has some of the best control in the league.
