Why Braves $20 million contract for Gold Glove shortstop is one of MLB's worst

The Atlanta Braves had to pivot at shortstop before the season began. Jorge Mateo signed a one-year deal with the NL East club right after Ha-Seong Kim's freak accident while ice skating. Mateo's tenure with the Braves didn't work out for both sides, and Kim's return wasn't any better. In fact, it was much worse. That's why Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter listed Kim's $20 million contract with Atlanta as one of the worst in the Majors. Kim is one of the more overpaid players in MLB "The Braves saw enough from Ha-Seong Kim in a 24-game audition down the stretch in 2025 to bring him back on a one-year, $20 million deal to serve as the team's primary shortstop," Reuter wrote.
