What happened to Ranger Suarez? Why Red Sox placed $130 million All-Star on IL
The Boston Red Sox will be without one of their frontline starting pitchers for at least a few weeks. On Thursday, the AL East club announced that left-hander Ranger Suarez was placed on the 15-day IL with a groin strain. The move is retroactive to July 6, per Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors. Taking Suarez's place on Boston's active roster is infielder Brett Harris from Triple-A Worcester. Suarez left his last start, a matchup against the Los Angeles Angels, in the third inning with tightness in his left adductor. He has made 17 starts in a Red Sox uniform after signing a five-year, $130 million deal with the organization during the offseason. In those outings, Suarez has posted a 3.15 ERA with 97 strikeouts and just 26 walks in 91.1 innings. MORE: Blue Jays did the right thing with Dylan
